COUNTY ALLEGIANCE
Your county is decided by where you live or where you go to school or by the location of the chess club which you regularly attend and from which you have qualified. In some cases you may have dual county allegiance. In that case it would depend on the Megafinal in which you played.
The county divisions are largely the ones used prior to the 1965 and later reorganisations. There are 39 English counties, 13 Welsh counties and 33 Scottish counties and 6 counties in Ulster. Most of the counties date back several centuries, and the majority of the English counties have histories stretching back to the Domesday Book and earlier. The county system is a clear “chess board” in which everyone has his place, and there is no confusion between cities, boroughs, unitary authorities, metropolitan areas, transitory areas, etc.
