On Saturday, 28th June 2003, David Howell, Britain’s chess prodigy and 13 year old Sergei Karjakin the world’s youngest grandmaster, will square up on a giant chess board for a 15 minutes each lightning game at Somerset House in the Strand, London, WC2.
After that they will each take on the general public in simultaneous play INCLUDING 40 SELECTED SUPREMI from this year’s UK Chess Challenge.
If you would like to take part in the chess simultaneous, just fill in the form below and send it to “Supremi Challenge, 7 Billockby Close, Chessington, Surrey, KT9 2ED” to arrive by 14th June, 2003 (or e mail to: ukchesschallenge@aol.com stating your name, date of birth, address, school and phone number.)
The lucky forty names will be drawn by lot and all entrants, whether successful or unsuccessful, will be notified by 21st June, 2003. ALL 40 SIMULTANEOUS COMPETITORS WILL RECEIVE A SPECIAL British Land UK Chess Challenge T-shirt on the day.
The next 40 applicants will receive places in the BLITZ event on the same day.
There are no entry fees to these events. All members of the public are welcome to visit the event, which coincides with the art exhibition at Somerset House on the theme of CHESS.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
11:00-11:30 a.m. Exhibition match, Karjakin v Howell
12:00 – 5:00 p.m. Simultaneous chess
Karjakin and Howell each face 20 opponents at the same time.
As players finish their games, new players take their place.
12:30- 5:00 p.m. Blitz tournament – PRIZE GIVING, 5:15 p.m.
